Statement on the passing of President Jimmy Carter
The Presidential Management Alumni Association (PMAA) and its members are deeply saddened at the passing of President Jimmy Carter.
President Carter embodied the ideals of servant leadership, and his lifelong commitment to democracy and peace stands as an example of the things we can accomplish when we work together.
He was a naval officer, farmer, state senator, governor, president, Nobel laureate, father, grandfather, and humanitarian.
And, to the more than 15,000 current and former federal employees who entered the federal workforce as a Presidential Management Intern (PMI) or a Presidential Management Fellow (PMF), he provided a pathway to a career of service to the United States.
Created by his 1977 Executive Order 12008, the PMI/PMF Program is the federal government's flagship leadership development program for advanced degree holders from all walks of life.
The program develops leaders who, in President Carter’s words, “served with competence, sensitivity, and dedication for the betterment of our government and nation.”
We are indebted to President Carter for the opportunity to use our talents and abilities to serve our nation. In that vein, PMAA will host a memorial day of service to honor his legacy. More details will be forthcoming.
