What we do

The Presidential Management Alumni Association supports PMI/PMF alumni to build an exceptional public service.

Our vision is to create an alumni association to improve, expand, and promote the alumni community as well as the PMF Program.

Work is prioritized by a strategic plan, developed and updated annually by the Board of Directors. It has 3 goals:

Diversity & Inclusion

We aim to create an organization that is inclusive and accessible. But we’re new, we’re learning, and we can always do better. It’s important to us to represent and respect the full experience of our PMIs and PMFs in every demographic. Especially because the voices of marginalized, minority, or otherwise traditionally disadvantaged persons are not always included in planning and management conversations, we’re very open to hearing from them. Let us know what you need to feel comfortable and included.

Underlying our work is PMAA’s belief that systemic racism, misogyny, and white supremacy are fundamentally incompatible with the ethos of public service. We believe Black Lives Matter and stand against violence or aggression toward any group, including recent attacks against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.

As such, PMAA is committed to the following:

  1. Make diversity a critical criteria in our leadership selections at PMAA, membership recruitment, and strategic partnerships;

  2. Increase the percentage of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color that learn about, apply for, and successfully become PMFs; and

  3. Support our membership in taking anti-racist action in their communities and workplaces, including providing education and promoting related efforts and participation.

FAQs

+ Is PMAA official?

Yes. PMAA is a 501(c)(3) nonpartisan nonprofit with staff and a board, in addition to a representative from OPM's PMF Program Office. We're looking for staying power.

+ How is PMAA funded?

By members like you. Donate here.

+ Does PMAA lobby?

PMAA is not currently engaged in any direct lobbying, although a small amount is allowed by our 501(c)(3) status. More often we educate partners about the program or offer opinions about potential program changes.

+ How do I become a member?

Becoming a member is as simple as subscribing to our newsletter. While our focus is PMI/PMF alumni, we also welcome current PMFs, hiring/training coordinators, partner organizations, and anyone else interested in supporting public service and the PMF Program.

Let us develop the resources of our land, call forth its power, build up its institutions, promote all its great interests, and see whether we also in our day and generation may not perform something worthy to be remembered.
